Acceptance of Grant Funding for Hurricane Shelter Retrofit at Grace Marketplace (B)
Explanation
A Resolution of the City of Gainesville, Florida accepting the allocation of State Hurricane Shelter Retrofit Grant Funding from the State of Florida, Division of Emergency Management and Alachua County Emergency Management for the Grace Marketplace Center Retrofit Project.
Grant Funding, in the amount of $70,000, has been awarded to Alachua County Emergency Management by the State of Florida, Hurricane Shelter Retrofit Program to retrofit Grace Marketplace Dormitory #15 as an Emergency Hurricane Shelter.
The Grace Marketplace Dormitory Building #15 was constructed in 2007 and currently meets most of the advanced building codes required post Hurricane Andrew to house a risk capacity of 252 people.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) awarded Alachua County Emergency Management reimbursement funding. The City of Gainesville, as a grant sub-recipient, will handle the construction management of the building retrofits. The project shall meet current hurricane shelter guidelines upon completion of the grant scope of work, and remain on the inventory for public shelter space for fifteen (15) years.
The scope of the elements of the Grant work are as follows:
1. Exterior Fenestration Protection
2. Structural Review of Roof and Load-Path Systems
3. Construction of Hurricane Protection Enclosures
4. Removal of Trees or Other Hazardous Landscaping Features
If grant funds are not sufficient to complete the project as designed staff may request additional funds from the FDEM Hurricane Shelter Program.
