This item is a request to authorize the City Manager to execute the Agreement for Age Based Fare Free Transit Pilot Project between the City of Gainesville (CITY) and the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC).
Explanation
The Agreement between the City of Gainesville (CITY) and the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) for the City of Gainesville Regional Transit System (RTS) to jointly fund a pilot project that provides fare free transit services for persons aged 18 years of age and under, and persons 65 years of age and over.
The pilot is scheduled to operate between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022 and is estimated to cost approximately $230,000. This agreement outlines the County’s commitment to jointly fund the pilot $115,000 (paid in quarterly installments during FY22). The pilot is intended to incentivize alternative modes of transportation.

Fiscal Note
For FY22 RTS will receive $115,000 in revenue from the BoCC made in quarterly payments for the services provided by the Age Based Fare Free Transit Pilot Project.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute the Agreement with Alachua County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) for Age Based Fare Free Transit Pilot Project, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
