Title
Discussion of the Role of the Utility Advisory Board (B)
Explanation
At the March 9, 2022 UAB Meeting, board member Miles suggested that the board review the ordinance that created the UAB and discuss the purpose of the UAB. On Thursday, March 17, 2022, board member Crowe requested via email that the staff liaison distribute all documents relating to the charge and purpose of the UAB. He also asked that legal counsel contribute to the information.
The conversation regarding the role of the Utility Advisory Board is an in-depth one involving the role of and relationship between advisory boards (e.g. the UAB), policy makers (e.g. the City Commission) and those who implement policies (GRU and City staff). To begin to understand the role of a policy maker, the UAB should review certain provisions of the city’s charter, the ordinance creating the UAB and the chapters governing utilities and rates.
