Southwest 62nd Boulevard Connector Alternative Alignments (B)
This item is to discuss the four alternative alignments for the Southwest 62nd Boulevard Connector being considered by the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization (MTPO) at the April 10 meeting.
Explanation
Alachua County commissioned a corridor study to identify alternative alignments for a north south connector between SR 24 (Archer Road) and SR 26 (Newberry Road). Four alignments were identified and presented to the MTPO at their March 13 meeting. This item will be presented to the MTPO again at their April 10 meeting.
Alternative 1 is proposed as a four lane of SW 20 Avenue between SW 62 Boulevard and SW 43 Street; SW 43 Street between SW 20 Avenue and Archer Road connecting to Archer Road at SW 40 Boulevard. The estimated cost of this alternative is $73.5 million.
Alternative 2 is proposed as a southerly extension of SW 62 Boulevard as a new four lane segment south of SW 20 Avenue connecting to Archer Road at SW 40 Boulevard; includes the westerly extension of SW 24 Avenue from SW 43 Street to SW 62 Boulevard. The estimated cost of this alternative is $95.8 million.
Alternative 3 is proposed to follow the same alignment as Alternative 1 to SW 24 Avenue but include a new roadway alignment between SW 24 Avenue and Windmeadows Boulevard then continue with the existing SW 37 Boulevard roadway to Archer Road. The estimated cost of this alternative is $81 million.
Alternative 4 is proposed as a combination of Alternative 2 and 3 that follows Alternative 2 alignment to SW 24 Avenue then extends east to SW 43 Street along SW 24 Avenue then continues along a new roadway alignment as described in Alternative 3 to Archer Road. The estimated cost of this alternative is $94 million.
Fiscal Note
There is no fiscal impact to the City of Gainesville at this time.
Recommendation
The City Commission hear a presentation on the alternative alignments and discuss.
