A resolution of the City of Gainesville, Florida, accepting grant offer from Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, and authorizing execution by the Mayor and Clerk of the Commission on behalf of the City of Gainesville; and providing an immediate effective date.
 
recommendation
The City Commission adopt the proposed resolution, subject to the approval of the City Attorney as to form and legality.
 
explanation
The Gainesville-Alachua County Regional Airport Authority has requested a Federal grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for four (4) proposed projects at the Gainesville Regional Airport in the total amount of $3,899,692.  The projects are for the rehabilitation of and/or enhancements to existing airport facilities as follows:
 
Project A - Airfield Lighting Improvements.
This project consists of the installation of new high intensity runway edge lights on Runway 10-28 with lightning resistant cables; raising the height of the existing rotating beacon to clear the trees in the vicinity of the beacon that are blocking the light beam in certain quadrants; the installation of a Runway Visual Range System for Runway 28; rehabilitation of taxiway edge lighting and signage; and minor modifications to the airfield lighting electric vault.
 
Project B - Rehabilitate General Aviation Apron Pavements
The project consists of the milling and overlaying of existing bituminous pavement areas; the application of asphalt rejuvenator to existing bituminous pavement areas; removal and reconstruction of existing pavement areas; corner break repair, crack/joint sealing, and small repair of existing concrete pavement areas; minor apron drainage enhancements; replacement of aircraft tie-down anchors; and repainting of taxiway and runway striping.
 
Project C - Upgrade Perimeter Fencing
The project involves the installation of 8' high security fence parallel with and airside of the existing 6' high perimeter fencing for animal control purposes in the area of dense vegetation adjacent to the airfield; upgrading/replacement of existing gate and/or gate operators; upgrading the access control system; and relocation of the CCTV system.
 
Project D - Repainting of "Hold-Short" Lines
This project involves the repainting of the "hold-short" lines to current FAA guidelines.
 
For the purpose of receiving Federal Grant funds, the FAA requires that the City of Gainesville and the Gainesville-Alachua County Regional Airport Authority both approve the Offer and the Gainesville-Alachua County Regional Airport Authority has requested that the City of Gainesville approve said Offer.
