Title
Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a joint participation agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to provide supplemental funding for the Southwest Gainesville Corridor Development Project.
Explanation
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) funded a Corridor Development Project for Southwest Gainesville in December 1997. Service enhancements were implemented in January 1998. Further enhancements were implemented in August 1998 and January 1999. The Corridor Development Project has a two-year time span, subject to availability of FDOT funds. FDOT has made available another $100,000 in its Fiscal Year 1998-1999 Work Program to provide supplemental funding for the Southwest Gainesville Corridor Development Project. Previously committed FDOT funding for this project had been exhausted on September 20, 1998. RTS has been using funds from the Campus Development Agreement and UF Student Transit Fee to provide service since that date. Response by UF students to the enhanced bus service has been overwhelming. Ridership on the Southwest Gainesville corridors to campus has increased by the following: SW 13th Street ridership is up 141%; SW Archer Road ridership is up 423%; and SW 20th Avenue is up 117%.
Fiscal Note
The University of Florida Student Transit Fee will provide local share for these supplemental funds.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the resolution and authorize the Mayor to execute the same after approval by the City Attorney for form and legality.
