Explanation
For this fiscal year, the Oaks on the Avenue Project includes the installation of tree wells, trees, tree grates and some minor curb and sidewalk work on N.W. 13th Street from University Avenue to N.W. 8th Avenue.
Two bids were received for the project as follows: Hipp Construction for $1,149 per well; and, Ellington Construction for $1,240 per well. Including the minor curb and sidewalk work, Hipp Construction is the low bidder at a total of $32,997 for installation of 28 tree wells. No tree grates will have to be purchased since the Parks Division has surplus grates in stock. Prior to commencing work, the Florida Department of Transportation will require that the City enter into a maintenance agreement for the improvements.
Fiscal Note
A total of $44,156 is available for this project as approved by the City Commission in account number CBB-001-850-8565-5390-4120 ($27,000), and by the Community Redevelopment Agency in account number MY 618-790-W702-5520-4120 ($17,156).
Recommendation
City Commission: 1) accept the bid submitted by Hipp Construction for installation of 28 tree wells; and 2) authorize the City Manager to sign the Florida Department of Transportation agreement for maintenance of the improvements on behalf of the City Commission.
