Award of Bid: Two Front End Loaders (B)
Explanation
Some of the major functions in which the Streets Division utilizes front end loaders are in the construction and maintenance of roads, in the loading and excavation of various materials, in the demolition of various objects, in the maintenance of storm water drainage and in the clearing of lands. Requests for proposals were advertised to 164 possible vendors with 19 of them requesting the RFP and technical specifications. Four proposals were received, however, one was determined to be non-responsive. The best evaluated proposal that meets specifications was submitted by Highland Tractor Company. The two front end loaders being purchased will replace like pieces of equipment that are thirteen and fourteen years old and whose cost effective lives have been surpassed. The normal replacement schedule for this type of equipment is ten years.
Fiscal Note
The total cost for both front end loaders and attachments after trade-in is $157,200. This amount is available in the Fleet Replacement Fund.
Recommendation
The City Commission award the purchase of two front end loaders to Highland Tractor Company in the amount of $157,200 and authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute all related contractual agreements.
