EMS County Grant Award Budget Increase (NB)
This item requests approval to increase the budget established for disbursement of grant funding from the Florida Department of Health EMS Grant Program distributed to the City of Gainesville through Alachua County.
Explanation
The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (BEMS), bi-annually awards funds from the State EMS Trust Fund to boards of county commissioners to improve and enhance pre-hospital emergency medical services in their counties. The amount allocated to each county is proportional to the amount of traffic fine surcharges collected in the county as a result of motor vehicle infractions.
On September 1, 2011, the Gainesville City Commission authorized the City Manager to accept the grant award and disburse funds up to $14,702.70 for Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) to purchase equipment. The second payment of funds has become available and GFR is eligible to accept $12,414.40 for the purchase of a thermal imager used to locate individuals within smoke-filled environments. The budget established for grant account 115-820-X651-5220-6040 needs to be increased by $12,414.40.
Fiscal Note
Reimbursement funds will be received from Alachua County in the amount of $12,414.40. There is no required match.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to increase the grant budget by $12,414.40.
