Staff recommends establishing a professional services agreement with Organizational Excellence International, P.C. for management performance consulting.
Explanation
The City invests significant dollars annually in maintaining and improving the City's physical assets and would be improper stewards if staff failed to do so. Likewise, the City must invest in maintaining and improving its most important assets, its employees. This is particularly true as it pertains to management effectiveness and changing organizational culture.
GRU recently completed its third organizational culture survey in 2007. The results reveal the need to build trust with management and improve communications a whole. While the workforce ages and becomes more diverse, the City also strives to keep up with a rapidly changing business world. To this end, management development is of great importance to help ensure that the City delivers competitively priced services that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Through the use of an external resource, the City can augment its services and provide intensive, effective, and targeted assistance in addressing critical organizational needs. The City has contracted with Organizational Excellence International for several management consultations. The results obtained from the use of this firm have been excellent. Based upon these successes, staff recommends establishing a professional services agreement with Organizational Excellence International to continue making improvements in managerial and supervisory capacities. Organizational Excellence International have excellent experience in fostering the managerial attributes required for successful organizational change and have considerable experience in working with utilities and municipalities.
