Explanation
The Alachua County Supervisor of Elections will conduct primary and general elections on Tuesday, September 1, Thursday, October 1 and Tuesday, November 3, 1998. The elections will require the temporary closing of the left turn lane on East University Avenue (SR 26) at its intersection with S.E. 1st Street for approximately six hours, commencing at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, Thursday, October 1 and Tuesday, November 3, 1998.
The temporary closing of a state road within municipal corporate limits requires a municipal government to submit a "Request for Temporary Closing of a State Road" to the State of Florida Department of Transportation. This application provides the City police of the municipality will manage all details involved in the administration of the event.
Fiscal Note
Support services required for the elections are to be provided and funded by the Gainesville Police Department in the amount of $576 for each election.
Recommendation
The City Commission adopt the proposed resolution, which requests the temporary closing of a left turn lane on a state road for City elections in September, October and November, providing an immediate effective date.
