Title
LECFTF Presentation and Second Year Funding for the Joint Aviation Unit
Explanation
On July 8, 1996 the City Commission approved the Inter-Agency Agreement for a Joint Aviation Unit between the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the City of Gainesville's Police Department. The agreement allows for each agency to fund and equip their respective helicopters and retain ownership. Second year funding for the program is based on approximately 250 GPD flight hours at a cost not to exceed $51,750. Additionally, the City Commission approved, at its 2/24/97 meeting, the $10,000 appropriation and expenditure from the LECFTF account for the renovation of hangar facilities for the JAU. As the Sheriff's Office has not been able to complete the renovations, a request is made to roll over the unencumbered $10,000 for FY 98 expenditure. The total appropriation for this request would be $61,750.
Fiscal Note
Funds for this $61,750 expenditure are available in the Federal Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund account. The balance in this account is $201,858. These expenditures are permitted under the Federal Forfeiture Guidelines.
Recommendation
The City Commission hear a presentation and consider the appropriation and expenditure of an amount not to exceed $61,750 for second year funding of the Joint Aviation Unit.
