This item involves a request to approve Change Orders for the construction contract, NE 25th Street SAFETEA-LU Roadway Improvements Project, in an effort to utilize the available LAP funding for the project.
Explanation
On June 16, 2011, the City Commission approved the staff recommendation to award a bid to DAB Constructors, Inc., for the NE 25th Street SAFETEA-LU Roadway Improvement project in accordance with approved plans and specifications. The bid price approved for this project was significantly below the available funding for the project. In an effort to utilize the available federal funds, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) agreed to include additional work that adds value to the project. FDOT has agreed to include into the scope of work a pipe replacement and milling and resurfacing of a portion of NE 19th Drive that was not constructed with the first SAFETEA-LU project. This additional work includes milling and resurfacing of some of the side-streets that intersect the project limits to provide a uniform transition to NE 25th Street. The limit of the project is from University Avenue to NE 8th Avenue. The scope of work includes: 1) resurfacing the existing roadway; 2) adding bicycle facilities within the roadway; 3) adding a sidewalk to the west side of the project; and 4) adding drainage improvements along the corridor. This is the second SAFETEA-LU project funded through a LAP agreement with the FDOT. The limits of the first SAFETEA-LU project were: NE 19th Street/Terrace from NE 3rd Avenue to NE 8th Avenue and NE 19th Drive/NE 20th Street from NE 3rd Avenue to NE 8th Avenue.
