Local Agency Program Glen Springs Road Safety Improvements (B)
Explanation
In December of 2004, the City of Gainesville entered into a Local Agency Program Project agreement for the Glen Springs Road Safety Improvements. This project includes the reconstruction of Glen Springs Road in the vicinity of the Elks Club to provide an urban roadway section with both curb & gutter and appropriate super-elevation for the curve. The project also includes the milling and resurfacing of NW 23rd Avenue from 13th Street to the 1700 block, with median islands, a bus bay, and pavement markings.
On May 19, 2005, the Purchasing Division solicited bids from 469 prospective bidders for the construction of the Glen Springs Road Safety Improvements. There were 12 plan holders with one firm responding with a bid. The bid of John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Co., of Alachua, Florida bid was determined to be both responsive and competitive in the amount of $715,682.22.
Fiscal Note
Funding for this project is provided through the Florida Department of Transportation as per the executed Local Agency Program Project agreement for this project.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) award the bid for the construction of the Glen Springs Road Safety Improvements to John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Co., of Alachua, Florida in the amount of $715,682.22.; 2) authorize the interim City Manager, or designee, to execute the contract, subject to approval of the City Attorney as to form and legality; and 3) authorize the issuance of a purchase order to John C. Hipp Construction Equipment Co., in the amount of $715,682.22.
