Title
Stephen Foster Neighborhood Traffic Concerns (NB)
Explanation
Ron Nichols came before the City Commission requesting that the City Commission investigate the traffic problems in the Stephen Foster Neighborhood. The Public Safety Committee discussed this referral at the May 15 and June 19, 2003 Public Safety Committee meetings. Discussion focused on speeding concerns, enforcement efforts and placement of traffic calming devices and signs. Public Works has scheduled NW 30th Avenue for resurfacing next year and recommends that no changes be made to the traffic calming devices until after resurfacing is complete. In the Fall, a ballot will be sent to the residents on NW 30th Avenue asking for vote on the installation of a second speed table. If approved by vote of the residents, the speed tables will be installed. If the vote fails, the road will still be resurfaced and the current speed hump will be replaced with the speed table. Public Works will work with the neighborhood and GFRD on the best location for the speed table. The Police Department will continue to work with the Stephen Foster Neighborhood Crime Watch in providing informational flyers and news articles on the traffic concerns noted in the committee meetings.
Recommendation
The Public Safety Committee recommends the City Commission remove this item from the committee's pending referral list.
