Title
Lights on Public Buildings - Legislative Item Number 980931
Explanation
On December 3, 1998, the Downtown Redevelopment Advisory Board (DRAB) discussed that the rooflines of many downtown buildings have a permanent band of lights. DRAB also discussed that the installation of similar lights to downtown public buildings owned by the City and County would be a welcome addition.
On December 21, 1998, the CRA heard a presentation regarding bands of light that have been installed along the rooflines of existing privately owned buildings downtown, and a request that the City and County Commissions install similar bands of light at the rooflines of several public buildings downtown.
Fiscal Note
Installation cost for three City-owned buildings (Tench Building, Plaza Canopy and Bethel Station) is estimated at $1,500, funds are available in City Commission contingency. Maintenance costs are unknown.
Recommendation
CRA to the City Commission: 1) install a band of lights along the roof lines of City-owned buildings downtown; 2) request that the Mayor send a letter to the County Commission asking that the County Commission light the rooflines of County-owned buildings downtown; and, 3) appropriate $1500 from the City Commission Contigency Fund.
