This is a request for City Commission approval to apply for funding under: OJJDP FY 18 Internet Crimes against Children Task Force Invited Applicants
The Internet Crimes against Children Task Force is a program managed by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, with 61 task forces nationwide. The goal of the task forces is to combat technology facilitated crimes against children, through a partnership of existing sovereign agencies. The North Florida ICAC Task Force exists today, and although this Award carries a new Award number, it is a continuation of activity and methods conducted by Gainesville Police designees since 2003.
This funding would allow for continued undercover operations, training of local and affiliated task force personnel, specialized equipment and licenses, and cover the salaries and benefits of two Gainesville Police Department detectives.
fiscal note
OJJDP expects to an award to the City of Gainesville up to $367,259 for a project period beginning October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019. This is a non-matching funding opportunity.
recommendation
The City Commission: 1) authorize the City Manager to apply for these funds, and 2) execute any additional documents that may be required, pending review of the City Attorney as to form and legality.
