Law Enforcement Contract with the Gainesville Housing Authority (B)

Explanation

The Gainesville Housing Authority applied for and received its twelfth grant under the federal Public Housing Drug Elimination Program.  Past grants have been instrumental in the implementation of the Gainesville Police Department's community oriented policing in the City's public housing area.  The Gainesville Police Department and the Housing Authority recommend that this partnership agreement be extended another year using the federal grant funds.

Fiscal Impact

The Gainesville Police Department, under negotiated terms, will receive $50,000 for two (2) officers during the twelve months of this contract.  The Housing Authority funds will be matched by City funds already included in the Police budget.

Recommendation

The City Commission authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute the HUD law enforcement agreement.
