Renewal of Contract with WCJB TV 20 for Police Beat Television Show (B)
Explanation
On July 23rd, 2001, the City Commission approved the Gainesville Police Department's funding recommendation for the FY01 Bureau of Justice Administration Local Law Enforcement Block Grant. Among the approved requests was $41,500 for the Department's Police Beat television show. The show is used to explain the Department's community oriented policing initiatives, as well as showcase crime prevention activities and various specialty unit operations.
GPD has been doing the show for over one year, and has shown 12 episodes. The show has been extremely successful and has allowed GPD to showcase who they are as well as highlighting high profile criminal investigations cases. In the first year, GPD showed over twenty different features of the department and used the show to give crime prevention tips to the public. These requested funds will cover the production and airing of eleven (11) thirty (30) minute shows to air the second Sunday of each month, commencing with the November 2001 show.

Funds for this $41,500 expenditure are available in the Bureau of Justice Administration Local Law Enforcement Block Grant account 115-810-X496-5210-4110.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the issuance of a purchase order totaling $41,500 to Diversified Broadcasting, Inc., D/B/A as WCJB TV 20, of Gainesville, Florida, for the continuation of funding of eleven episodes of the Police Beat television show, and authorize the City Manager or his designee to enter into an agreement with WCJB TV 20 for the same.
