Title
Depot Kiosk Lighting (B)
Explanation
At the December 3, 2001 meeting of the East Gainesville Sprout Project Task Force, members requested that GRU install a light at the information kiosk along the Depot Avenue rail trail. This kiosk displays historical information regarding the depot building and proposed stormwater park project. Staff consulted with GRU, which advised that it was not cost effective to create a stand-alone electrical service for the kiosk. According to GRU, the best alternative is to install a light within the kiosk and connect it to an electrical service at the old train depot once it is rehabilitated. In the interim, the existing spotlight adjacent to the kiosk has been refocused on the structure, improving illumination.
On January 29, 2002, the Task Force heard a report from staff. Members were satisfied with the current spotlight refocused on the kiosk. For the long term, members approved a recommendation to permanently light the kiosk as part of the depot building project.
Fiscal Note
Funds for this project could be budgeted from various sources dedicated to the depot building project.
Recommendation
The Sprout Task Force to the City Commission: install permanent lighting at the Depot kiosk as part of the depot building project.
