Title
Trencher with Backhoe and Transport Trailer Purchase (B)
Explanation
The Gas Transmission and Distribution Division of Energy Delivery uses this equipment to dig trenches for the purpose of installing gas mains and services. A new trencher will replace an existing unit which is un-repairable and at the end of its useful life.
Invitations to bid were sent by Utilities Purchasing to three prospective bidders with two responding, one with no bid. One bid did not meet the material requirements of the bid and was deemed non-responsive, as it was determined that the Vermeer 3550 was not heavy enough to meet the needs of the division. The Division needs something of a size and substance between that of the Vermeer 3550 and the Ditch Witch 4010. The Model 3700 Ditch Witch-with its heavier backhoe unit and frame, larger digger chain, steerable rear end and high flotation tires will best meet these needs. A bid tabulation is attached for your reference.
Recommendations
The City Commission approve the issuance of a purchase order to Ditch Witch of Northern Florida for the purchase of a trencher with backhoe and transport trailer in an amount not to exceed $46,404.
Fiscal Note
Funding for this purchase is available in the FY 2002 Capital Budget for the Gas Transmission and Distribution Division.
