2013 Federal Legislative Agenda (B)
Explanation
On December 19 and 20, 2011, each City Commissioner and staff held meetings with the City's Legislative Consultant, Marilyn Berry Thompson, and Government Relations Team, to develop an annual federal agenda. The use of annual federal agendas has proven to be effective on several fronts. The agenda serves as the starting point by which the city is able to measure specific outcomes and achievements at the end of each year. The agenda also helps the City and Members of the Florida Congressional Delegation, as well as the Governmental Relations Team, to focus their energies on a very clear and specific set of Federal grant and legislative priorities and initiatives.
Based on the meetings, staff and the Team recommended several items and initiatives for the annual Federal Agenda. Projects and initiatives include: Innovation Square and the iDistrict; Power District; Depot Park; SEGRI; Waldo Corridor; Armory Park; RTS Administration, Operations and Maintenance Facility Expansion; Replacement Buses; Bus Rapid Transit; Streetcar Service; Youth Services and Education; Law Enforcement Technology; Paynes Prairie Sheetflow Restoration; Biomass; Numeric Nutrient Criteria; and Koppers Health Study. Also included is a list of targeted federal grants and federal funding authorizations that are priority programs for the city and may be used to fund the items in the agenda. Staff and the Government Relations Team will work with the Congressional Delegation to identify resources available to successfully meet the goals set forth in the legislative agenda.
