This is a request for City Commission Contingency funds for Glory Days Booking in support of the Real Big Deal Music and Arts Festival to provide police, private security, EMS, insurance, clean-up and other mandatory expenses.
Explanation
Glory Days Booking is hosting their annual Real Big Deal Music and Arts Festival on September 13-14, 2008 at the Alachua County Fairgrounds. The Real Big Deal Music and Arts Festival strives to bring the community together to appreciate arts, music and culture of the City and the region. Non-profit organizations including Harvest of Hope, Florida Blind, Head Count (non-partisan voter registration), and Rock for Hunger will be present to educate festival goers on how to better serve the community. Local artists, merchants, and vendors will display their work and wares. A primary goal of the Real Big Deal Festival is to emulate other successful national music festivals that strengthen communities economically and culturally. Glory Days Booking is asking the City of Gainesville to partner with their organization by donating $10,000 to help offset the cost of police, private security, emergency medical service, insurance, clean-up, and other mandatory expenses to facilitate the event. A detailed festival budget is provided as back-up.
Fiscal Note
The Real Big Deal Music, Inc. / Glory Days Booking is requesting $10,000 from the City Commission Contingency Fund. The Fund balance as of July 10, 2008 was $49,845.
Recommendation
The City Commission consider the request and take action as appropriate.
