Title
Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Franchise Agreement - 1700 block NW 1st Avenue (B)
Explanation
The Public Works Department, Solid Waste Division and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) staff have entered into discussions with three property owners on the south side of the 1700 block of NW 1st Avenue regarding consolidation of several dumpsters into one compactor. These discussions have been initiated through the NW 17th Street streetscape project and associated impacts on the property at the University of Florida Plaza located on NW 17th Street between West University Avenue and NW 1st Avenue. Additionally, these discussions have resulted from a CRA funded project to construct a demonstration dumpster screening project in the vicinity as identified in the College Park/University Heights District Work Plan for 2000-2001. The Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Franchise Agreement is a multi-party agreement between the property owners, the waste hauler, and the City of Gainesville to provide for shared use of a compactor to be placed on the property of parcel #14976-001-00. A separate easement between the City of Gainesville and this property owner will provide for placement of the City-owned compactor on private property.
Fiscal Note
The Community Redevelopment Agency has approved $15,476 for construction of a dumpster enclosure as a demonstration project in the College Park/University Heights District. The City of Gainesville Solid Waste Division has allocated funds within its existing Solid Waste Enterprise Fund for the purchase of a compactor at an estimated cost of $12,500.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the Agreement pending final review from the Purchasing and Legal Departments.
