Title
Florida Division of Cultural Affairs Local Arts Agency Grant (NB)
The Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs requests City Commission approval to apply to the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs for a three-year Local Arts Agency grant.
Explanation
Since being designated as the Local Arts Agency (LAA) for Alachua County in 1985, the City of Gainesville Cultural Affairs Division has applied to the State of Florida for a general program support grant. Cultural Affairs qualifies as a Level III organization and can apply for the highest level of funding, $60,000, although grant awards at this level are usually between $22,000 - 26,000. Cultural Affairs is applying for LAA funding up to $60,000. This grant funding is used for the Black Music month events, special visual arts programs, promotion, and travel and training for Cultural Affairs staff. LAA grants are awarded for three years, beginning July 1, 2008.
Fiscal note
Cultural Affairs is applying for a Local Arts Agency grant for an amount not to exceed $60,000. The grant requires a 50% match. The matching funds in an amount not to exceed $30,000 will be identified in the Cultural Affairs budget.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) approve the submission of an application to the Local Arts Agency grant program; 2) authorize the City Manager to accept the grant if awarded; and 3) authorize the City Manager or designee to execute any grant related documents pending approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
Alternative Recommendation: The City Commission deny the submission of an application.
