Explanation

Pagers are used by a number of City Departments to contact employees whose job duties frequently require them to move around the City.  As a member of the North Central Florida Purchasing Cooperative, the City participated in a bid for pager services with the proviso they would begin the new service when the old contract expired on September 30, 2000.  Prices offered by the winning bidder, Verizon Wireless, are less than what the City currently pays for the same services.  The initial contract will be from October 1, 2000 until June 30, 2002 with options for up to two additional one year extensions.

Fiscal Note

Funds for pagers are available in each departmental budget.

Recommendation

The City Commission: 1) approve the selection of Verizon Wireless for the initial contract period plus up to two one year extensions providing service is acceptable; and 2) authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the contract subject to the approval of the City Attorney as to form and legality.
