Contract Award for Medical Services to First Care of Gainesville (B)
Explanation
The current contract to provide physical examinations and medical consulting services expires on June 30, 2004. The physical examinations provided as part of the contract include pre-employment, age-related, periodic, and disability examinations required by City, State, or Federal regulations. Consulting services include collaboration on medical protocols giving authority and legal coverage to the City nurses for administration of treatment including medications. Additional required services are medical oversight of industrial hygiene tests and interpretation of employee health implication and, the rendering of medical opinions as requested by the City. Sealed bids were opened on April 5, 2004. 354 potential bidders were notified of the bid via Demand Star. Of the 354 notified, four vendors downloaded the bid. Two bids were received and evaluated by a committee of City employees. Based on the evaluations of staff, First Care of Gainesville was rated as submitting the best overall proposal.
Fiscal Impact
The funds for this program are budgeted in the General Insurance Fund.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) approve the selection of First Care of Gainesville as the City's provider of medical services for physical examinations and medical director services; and 2) authorize the City Manager or designee to negotiate with and enter into a three-year agreement effective July 1, 2004, with the possibility for one three-year extension.
