The City's current Equal Opportunity Director has announced his retirement. In order to select a replacement for this position in a timely manner, a national search should begin immediately. A search plan and advertisement is being proposed for approval.
Explanation
On May 21, 2009, the City Commission directed staff to initiate a national search for an Equal Opportunity Director and to provide a recruitment plan to the City Commission, to include special wording in the advertisement.
The search plan includes a timeline of activities and resources that will be utilized. The general timeline includes: the recruitment phase which will begin in June; on-site interviews scheduled for mid-August; and the targeted start date by mid-September.
The advertisement is broad, outlining the knowledge, skills, and abilities that the ideal candidate must possess. The ad is designed to gain attention of highly qualified candidates, and directs those interested in applying for this position to visit the City of Gainesville website where they can view the detailed job description and make application, if necessary. The ad will also direct those interested in applying for this position to view the Equal Opportunity Office website for additional information about the department.
Fiscal Note
Funds for this search are available in the FY2009 budget.
