Title
Community and Urban Forestry grant report "Gainesville's Future Urban Forest--Making the Plan Work!"
Explanation
A $15,000 grant was received from the Florida Department of Agriculture to evaluate the effectiveness of the landscaping provisions in the City of Gainesville's Code of Ordinances. One of the grant's requirements is that a status report be made to the City Commission. Along with the report is a list of proposed Code changes that, if implemented, will clarify ambiguities, improve protection for Heritage Trees, increase tree-plantings in subdivisions, and strengthen the urban forest in a variety of ways.
Fiscal Note
No funding is required.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) hear a report from Joe Durando, Chair of the Tree Advisory Board and Meg Niederhofer, City Arborist; 2) receive a list of proposed changes to the Land Development Code; and 3) direct staff to study the proposed changes and return them to the Commission by September 13, for approval for submission to the Department of Agriculture.
