Explanation
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada has awarded the City of Gainesville, GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Financial and Operating Plan for fiscal years 2011 and 2012. The Award represents a significant achievement by the City. In order to receive the Budget Award, the City satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well the City's budget serves as a policy document; a financial plan, an operations guide; and a communication device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories to receive the award.
When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for its having achieved the award. This certificate has been presented to the Office of Management and Budget. The City of Gainesville has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the last 25 consecutive years.
