Explanation

Buck Consultants has provided actuarial services for the City of Gainesville Police Officers' and Firefighters' Retirement Plan since January 1, 1997.  The term of the original contract was three (3) years, with an expiration date of December 31, 1999.  The original contract allows for the extension of the contract by mutual agreement of Buck Consultants and the City of Gainesville for an additional three (3) year period.  As an informational item, staff brought the extension to the attention of the Consolidated Board of Trustees of the Police Officers' and Firefighters' Retirement Plan during the December meeting.  The Board expressed support for the City entering into a three (3) year extension. 

Fiscal Note

Funds for actuarial services are budgeted in the Police Officers' and Firefighters' Pension trust fund.

Recommendation

The City Commission approve a three (3) year extension to the Buck Consultants' contract and authorize the City Manager to execute the requisite amendment subject to the approval of the City Attorney as to form and legality.
