Explanation

The Gainesville Police Department currently has a Mutual Aid Agreement with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.  This agreement provides increased police resources and cooperation for support to and from each respective law enforcement agency when needed.  Each agency recognizes the benefits from the potential use of K-9's, helicopter, and other assistance from each other.

Fiscal Note

There will be no fiscal impact for signing this Mutual Aid Agreement.  At the time mutual aid is extended, the cost is typically borne by the offering agency.

Recommendation

The City Commission authorize the City Manager to renew the Mutual Aid Agreement between the Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, for a period of two years.
