An ordinance of the City of Gainesville, Florida, amending Chapter 2, Article VII, Division 8 (Consolidated Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement Plan) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Gainesville; amending Section 2-600(k), Deferred Retirement Option Program, to increase the time period for DROP eligibility for members with vested service in the City of Gainesville Employees Pension Plan; providing directions to the codifier; providing a severability clause; providing a repealing clause; and providing an immediate effective date.

The City Commission, at its meeting of February 19, 2015, authorized the City Attorney to prepare and the Clerk of the Commission to advertise an ordinance amending the Consolidated Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement Plan ("Consolidated Pension Plan"). The proposed ordinance would allow members who are also vested members of the General Employee's Pension Plan (those with at least five years of service in the General Plan) the opportunity to participate in the DROP for a maximum of five years if they enter before twenty-five years of Consolidated Pension Plan service and exit the DROP on or before thirty-five years of total service. These amendments are a result of negotiations between the City and Professional Firefighters of Gainesville, Local No. 2157 ("IAFF"). These amendments were ratified by IAFF members on February 5, 2015 and will be presented to the City Commission for ratification at the same meeting as the second reading of this Ordinance. Pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreements between the City and the Gator Lodge 67, Inc. Fraternal order of Police ("FOP") and North Central Florida Police Benevolent Association, Inc.
