Title
Memorial Tree Planting on Archer Road (B)
Explanation
On May 3, 2001, Mr. Jim McCawley from the Alachua County Veterans Memorial Committee (ACVMC) requested funding from the City of Gainesville and Alachua County for 134 trees to be planted in the medians of Archer Road (State Road 24) beginning at the J. Malcom Randall Veterans Administration Medical Center to Tower Road. These trees will represent our County's heroes who died during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The ACVMC also requested that the City donate six memorial signs.
Fiscal Note
Tree purchases for the Archer Road project are estimated to cost $18,000. The ACVMC intends to receive donations for $9,000 and requested sponsorship from the City of Gainesville and Alachua County in the amount of $4,500 each. The estimated signage cost is $300.
Recommendation
The City Commission refer the Archer Road tree planting project to the City Beautification Board for consistency with the Gateway Corridor Design and request that the Board coordinate its review with Alachua County. The Board is requested to report back to the Commission in 60 days.
