Renewal of Contract for Paper Recycling Services
Explanation
On September 26, 1997, the City of Gainesville entered into a contract with Recycling Services of America to provide collection, processing and marketing of recyclable office products from all City facilities. Collection is from inside City buildings using centralized recycling containers with canvas bags (called "Iggies"). The current contract, which expires on September 30, 1999, may be renewed on a two-year basis, under the same terms and conditions, for not more than four years. This is the first request for renewal.
Recycling Services of America has provided reasonably consistent service, and the quality of service continues to improve.
Recycling Services of America's bid for providing this service was based on the number of pickups, the tonnage picked up and credit for specific recycled materials. Based on FY 1999 expenses, the cost of the contract will be approximately $13,000 for each of the two fiscal years (2000 and 2001) for a total contract cost of approximately $26,000; therefore, City Commission approval is required.
Fiscal Note
Funds are available in the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund, Contractual Services Account No. 420-800-8080-5340-4120.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize: 1) a two-year renewal of the contract with Recycling Services of America extending the term of the agreement until September 30, 2001, subject to City Attorney approval as to form and legality; and 2) the issuance of a purchase order to Recycling Services of America in an amount not to exceed $13,000 for FY 2000.
