Title
Approve an Interlocal Agreement with Alachua County and Purchase of EMS Equipment
Explanation
The State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) allocates funds from the State EMS Trust Fund to the boards of County Commissioners to improve and expand prehospital EMS systems in their county. The annual amount allocated to each county is proportional to the amount of traffic fines collected in the county as a result of motor vehicle infractions.
Alachua County has been allocated $102,987.86 for 1998-99. Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) requested and was approved a portion of these funds to: 1) enhance GFR's abilities to do effective Search and Rescue; 2) increase GFR's ability to give early notification of hazardous atmospheric conditions due to hazardous materials releases; and 3) enhance GFR's Medical Quality Assurance Program. The award provides $48,550.00 for Gainesville Fire Rescue to purchase specific equipment for these purposes, including two (2) thermal imagers, two (2) multi-gas detectors, and one (1) personal computer.
Fiscal Note
The $48,550.00 will be received from the County after the Interlocal Agreement is fully executed.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager to: 1) execute the Interlocal Agreement with the County, and any other necessary documents pending review by the City Attorney as to form and legality; and 2) authorize award and issuance of a purchase order to the most responsive, responsible vendor meeting specifications for two (2) thermal imagers, two (2) multi-gas detectors, and one (1) personal computer in an amount not to exceed $48,550.00.
