Explanation
This item is a request approval by the City Commission to execute and enter into a grant agreement if awarded, and any other necessary documents with the United States Department of Energy (DOE), Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO).
Under this grant, Governmental entities may submit Feasibility Study Proposals to identify technologies that would be applicable to their communities.
The City’s Solid Waste Department as part of the Zero Waste Initiative, intends to conduct an Environmental Feasibility Study for the establishment of a Food Waste Anaerobic Digester.
The anticipated cost of the study is $625,000.00. The City of Gainesville would be eligible for up to 80% ($500,000.00) in grant funding; the 20% ($125,000.00) required match is available in the Solid Waste Undesignated Fund Balance.

Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager or designee to execute and enter into a grant agreement if awarded, and any other necessary documents with DOE, BETO pertaining to this grant, subject to approval by the City Attorney or designee as to form and legality.
