This request is to purchase a training taser for the Newberry High School Academy of Criminal Justice.

Explanation

The taser will be used in conjunction with Newberry High School's Academy of Criminal Justice use of force simulator.  This will educate those students on the appropriate level of force needed for given situations.

Fiscal Note

Funds in the amount of $1,000 are available out of the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Fund.  The balance is $102,333 unreserved fund balance per the city financial statement of expenditures and encumbrances compared with appropriations for the nine months ended June 30, 2011.

Recommendation

The City Commission approve the appropriation in the amount of $1,000 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund to Newberry High School Academy of Criminal Justice.

Alternative Recommendation A: The City Commission deny funding.
