The City Commission authorize the City Attorney to represent the City in the case styled James V. Crosby vs. City of Gainesville; Eighth Judicial Circuit, Case No. 2011-CA-4967.
 
explanation
On February 26, 2013, the City was served with a Summons and Complaint.  The Plaintiff has filed a multi-count Complaint for damages related to his 2007 arrest by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and his conviction of using a computer system or network to solicit or obtain sex with a minor.  At the time of the Plaintiff's criminal offense and arrest, the City and Polk County Sheriff's Office were both members of a multi-jurisdictional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, through which federal grants funded law enforcement activities.  The Plaintiff seeks damages in the amount of $20,000,000.00.
