This item requests approval by the City Commission for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) to accept a grant awarded from the National Recreation and Park Association and the Walmart Foundation's 2015 "Out-of-School Time Program" grant in the amount of $34,591.60.
Explanation
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department (PRCA) seeks to provide healthier meal options to youth in afterschool and summer programs. Through a grant opportunity from the National Recreation and Park Association and the Walmart Foundation's 2015 Out-of-School Time Program Grant in the amount of $34,591.60, the Department can serve more meals to youth during the summer and afterschool, and incorporate important nutrition literacy in more programs. In addition, the grant will expand healthy eating and increase physical activities at our recreation centers through organized afterschool and summer camp programs.
PRCA staff recently submitted an application for the grant, and learned the application has been awarded $34,591.60. This will enable PRCA to serve more meals incorporating nutrition literacy into its programs, should the City Commission approve acceptance of the grant award.

There is no fiscal impact related to this grant application request. No funding match is required.
Recommendation
The City Commission: 1) approve the request to accept a grant awarded from the National Recreation and Park Association and the Walmart Foundation's 2015 Out-of-School Time Program Grant in the amount of $34,591.60; and 2) authorize the City Manager or designee to execute the grant agreement and other related grant documents, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
