Title Annual Materials Supply Contracts for Asphalt for FY 1999 Explanation The Purchasing Division solicited bids from seven asphalt suppliers. Two responded with bids. The establishment of a primary and secondary supplier is necessary to insure the timely supply of asphalt services throughout the year. V. E. Whitehurst & Sons, Inc. of Williston is recommended as the primary supplier for picked up plant mix and secondary supplier of inplace asphalt, and White Construction Company of Chiefland is recommended as primary supplier for inplace asphalt and secondary supplier for picked up plant mix. Contracted asphalt services are essential to the Public Works Department's programs to provide roadway and drainage facility maintenance and construction. Fiscal Note All purchases will be charged to the appropriate operating or capital improvement account. Recommendation The City Commission: 1) approve the award of the annual asphalt contracts for FY 1999 to V. E. Whitehurst & Sons, Inc., of Williston and White Construction Company of Chiefland; and 2) authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute annual services contracts with Whitehurst & Sons, Inc., and White Construction Company, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to form and legality.
