Explanation

On October 4, 2001 Downtown Redevelopment Advisory Board (DRAB) discussed the new City parking garage at length.  The board members felt strongly that retail should be the primary focus of the ground level spaces that front Southwest 1st Street and Southwest 1st Avenue in order to maximize the redevelopment function of the garage.  On October 15, 2001 the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) heard DRAB's recommendation and forwarded it to the City Commission.

Recommendation

CRA to the City Commission: Recommend that retail be the top priority and the focus for the first floor of the parking garage, with office space being the last resort and reserved only to the southwest quadrant (which would be on Southwest 2nd Avenue).
