Title
A Resolution of the City Commission for the Temporary Closing of two State Roads: State Road 26 (University Avenue) and State Road 329 (Main Street) for the 1998 "Downtown Countdown" New Year's Eve Celebration on December 31, 1998.
Explanation
The City of Gainesville's Department of Cultural Affairs sponsors the Downtown Countdown New Year's Eve Celebration on December 31, 1998. The event requires the temporary closing of the left turn lane on East University Avenue at its intersection with S.E. 1st Street and the temporary closing of the left turn lane on South Main Street (SR 329) at its intersection with S.E. 1st Avenue for approximately seven hours, commencing at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 1998.
The temporary closing of a state road within municipal corporate limits requires a municipal government to submit a "Request for Temporary Closing of a State Road" to the State of Florida Department of Transportation. This application provides that the city police of the municipality will manage all the details involved in the administration of the event.
Fiscal Note
Funds for the event in the amount of $10,750 are available in the approved Plaza Events FY 98-99 budget.
Recommendation
The City Commission adopt the proposed resolution, which requests the temporary closing of left turn lanes on two state roads for the 1998 "Downtown Countdown" New Year's Eve Celebration, providing an immediate effective date.
