Joint Meeting of the City Commissioners of Gainesville, Florida and the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners regarding Residential Solid Waste Collection Contracts
Explanation
On June 7, 1994, the City Commission of the City of Gainesville, Florida voted to award the solid waste and recycling collection agreement between the City of Gainesville and Waste Management of Central Florida, Inc., and the yard trash collection agreement between the City of Gainesville and Boone Waste Industries, Inc., effective October 1, 1994. These contracts were awarded based upon a joint City of Gainesville/Alachua County Invitation to Bid and a joint Bid Award. These contracts expire September 30, 1999. The City of Gainesville and the County may either negotiate extensions of the current contracts or solicit new bids.
On April 13, 1998, the City Commission voted to have a joint City/County meeting to discuss the residential collection contracts. The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners voted on May 12, 1998, to hold a joint meeting with the City Commission.
The attached backup includes copies of the presentation package and the draft bid specs to be used in the negotiations or if a bid is needed.

Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the City Manager, in coordination with the County Manager, to enter into negotiations with Waste Management of Central Florida, Inc., and Boone Waste Industries, Inc.
