Title
State LECFTF Funding for Crime Trac (NB)
Explanation
Crime Trac has been a longstanding, successful program that aids in the apprehension of individuals wanted by law enforcement agencies. The Gainesville Police Department has been a participant in the program since its inception. Due to the success of the program, and the increasing number of reward assessments the Crime Trac Board has made in recent years, their funds have reached a dangerously low point. Crime Trac, Inc., a non-profit organization, relies on donations for all of its funding. This appropriation would be used to stabilize the pool of funds available for reward assessments and also meet the requirement for donating 15% of all forfeiture funds to crime prevention programs.
Fiscal Note
The $10,000 for this expenditure is available in the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund, as allowed under FSS 932.7055(4)(a). The current available balance of the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund is $23,038.01.
Recommendation
The City Commission approve the appropriation and expenditure of $10,000 from the State Law Enforcement Contraband Forfeiture Trust Fund to Crime Trac, Inc., to assist in offsetting reward assessments.
