Art in Public Places Trust (APPT) Creek Signage Project Update (NB)
Explanation
This item was referred to the City Beautification Board for further review and comments, and the City Beautification Board was instructed to report back to the City Commission. Joy McBane with Alachua County Environmental Protection Department presented the creek signage options at the monthly meeting on October 16, 2002.
Pat Byrne presented the recommendation of the City Beautification Board to the Public Works Committee on November 4, 2002. The recommendation of the City Beautification Board is: 1) the background with the blue waterway meandering through green ground, but without the frog, should be selected; 2) the sign should have the creek name only with lettering that is the appropriate size for the designated road speed and commensurate with the total size of the sign; and 3) the wording "watershed" should be removed.
Recommendation
The Public Works Committee request that the City Commission 1)approve the recommendation of the City Beautification Board; 2) direct staff to begin producing and installing the signs in the City limits; and 3) Remove from referral list.
Fiscal Note
The funding for this item is to come from the Orange Creek Partnership Program. The estimated number of signs to be produced by staff is 24 at an approximate cost of $120.00 per sign, for a total estimated cost of $2,880.00.
