Title
Contract for Collection of Office Paper for Recycling
Explanation
On September 26, 1997, the City of Gainesville entered into a contract with Recycling Services of America to provide collection and processing of office paper and corrugated cardboard from all City facilities. Collection is from inside City buildings using centralized recycling containers with canvas bags (called "Iggies"). This contract will expire September 30, 1999.
Recycling Services of America's bid for providing this service was based on the number of pickups, the tonnage picked up and credit for specific recycled materials. When the original contract was signed the anticipated cost was less than $25,000 for two years. Increased recycling has resulted in higher anticipated costs. Based on FY 97/98, the anticipated aggregate cost of the contract will be $30,000 which exceeds the City Manager's authorization limit; therefore, City Commission approval is required.
Fiscal Note
Funds are available in the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund.
Recommendation
The City Commission authorize the expenditure of up to $30,000 for office paper recycling services.
