Explanation
The State of Florida, Department of Community Affairs, Division of Emergency Management has announced funding availability from the Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Program.

The City of Gainesville Police Department is applying for up to $300,000.00 under the Emergency Management Competitive Grant Program under award category (4) Other projects that will further state and local emergency management objectives which have been designated by the State of Florida as priorities in the Notice of Funding Availability. The City's proposal will address Priority Area A) Projects which implement the community's Local Hazard Mitigation Strategy, and Priority Area B) Projects which will improve emergency management capabilities in the fundamental areas of preparedness, response, or recovery.

The ECCV will be utilized during special events and incidents that require an on site command and communications capability. It will also support Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) operations in their capacity as the Advanced Technical Response component of the North Central Florida Regional Hazmat Response Team.

The grant regulations permit any funds applied for or received by the applicant for the proposed project or a similar project to be identified as match. As these grant funds will enhance the City's emergency preparedness capacity, specifically including enhancing the response capacity of GFR's Hazardous Materials Response Unit, the value of that Unit can be used as in-kind match.

Grant funds would be used to purchase and equip an ECCV capable of responding to local emergency situations and serving as a command post with full communications ability allowing coordinated efforts to deal with the existing disaster.
