This item is a follow-up to the July 31, 2014 presentation to the RCAPW regarding pricing and contract term concerns present in current local commercial garbage contracts as well as potential solutions to commercial recycling obstacles.

Explanation

At the RCAPW meeting on July 31^st, staff was asked to engage the stakeholders, haulers, and the business community for more information and feedback on commercial hauling pricing, contractual obligations and recycling.  Staff conducted online and face-to-face surveys with local businesses, and held meetings with the franchised haulers.  The data and comments have been compiled for staff to present to the Committee for discussion and consideration.

Fiscal Note

There is no funding impact at this time.  If funding needs to be identified for this Strategic Initiative, a potential source would be the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund.

Recommendation

The RCAPW Committee hear a presentation from staff and provide guidance to staff as appropriate.
