Local Senior Games (NB)
Explanation
At the June 25, 2001 City Commission meeting, Jack Hughes of the Gainesville Sports Organizing Committee (GSOC) came before the City Commission requesting assistance with funding as well as in-kind services.
On July 10, 2001, GSOC Representative Jack Hughes, asked the Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee if the City would match the County's contribution of $10,000 for an event on October 18-21, 2001. The sponsorship would be in lieu of supporting the Annual State Football Championship provided by City Commission contingency annually since 1998.
Staff will provide in-kind services including: some of the event sites, manpower at each event for coordination, assist with pre-event planning, and focus future events on senior participation. Staff has established a dollar value of approximately $3,000 for in-kind services and suggests the value be deducted from the requested $10,000.
Fiscal Note
City Commission contingency would be required for $7,000.
Recommendation
The Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee hear a presentation from staff on the Local Senior Games Co-sponsorship.
